A pianist's ear, a sculptor's hand
Edna Dagan is a multimedia artist whose work moves fluidly between bronze, stone, wood, clay and paint. Before she ever held a chisel she was a classical pianist, and that first language never left her: her sculptures phrase, her paintings keep time.
Her surname, Dagan, is the Hebrew word for wheat — an image that recurs throughout the work as a symbol of growth, harvest and quiet abundance. Nature and music are her two poles, and much of the collection lives in the field between them.
She works in painting, sculpture and hybrid assemblage alike, often letting a single idea migrate across materials until it finds its truest form.
